Giuseppi Verdi develops a tragic tale of ambition, treachery, murder and mayhem in the first opera based on a Shakespearean drama. The negative and confusing prophecies of the three witches haunt Macbeth, an acutal Scottsh ruler 1041-1057, through the dark and troubled path he pursues to gain power and wealth by any means. In the end he and his goading wife lose it all along with their lives.
